Set in the nineteen-nineties Ace of Spades explores the consequences of war on its protagonists and the tragedy those people carry forever.
Beli, the main character, returns to small Montenegro town, after years in prison for war crimes. During the war in former Yugoslavia, he was a member of paramilitary unit Shadows, which participated in cruel executions. After returning to his birth place, Beli gradually develops a bond with his younger brother Kenta, a gambler, who makes his living by entertaining wives of foreign businessmen. Kenta is falling in love with Sanja, a war-traumatized refugee from Sarajevo, who he met when Beli came to see her father. But Beli’s bad habits are forcing Kenta to question his judgment. Kenta also finds out that the video tape which got Beli to jail and forced his buddies – war criminals – into exile, has been sold to the media by Beli himself for a lot of money.
Now former Shadows are coming back – it’s time to pay.
